MEET THE SUPPLIER: THE CAKE THAT ATE PARIS

I was always drawn to desserts after I did my chef’s apprenticeships I went on a big trip around Australia with my husband in our combi and then that really gave me the confidence then to go out and start my own business coming back from that and seeing that so many other people are out there doing their own thing and doing it well I came back from inside right start my own thing so I started doing markets every weekend selling cupcakes and cake pops and everything like that and it just grew from there my name is Bree I’m a cake designer and I run the cake that ate Paris good things for people to have in mind before they get in touch with me is how many people you’ve got coming to your wedding where your wedding is, all things that I need to know and have a good idea of the design that you want so if they’ve got no idea I asked them what colors they’ve got in their wedding what flowers they’re having what their dress looks like and then I’ll come up with four or five designs for them and then we’ll just go from there a good lead-in time for people to order is about nine months to a year I don’t really book anything further than that I find if brides book even a year and a half or two years in advance they change their mind it is very labor intensive depending on like a naked cake is really simple to do it so I can whip that up really quickly something like this or the fondant covered cakes you’ve got to bake it then you layer it with all your icing and everything then you’ve got a ganache around the outside as well so that all takes a long time and then you’ve got to decorate it if you’ve got sugar flowers and things they can be done well in advance that they’re really time consuming cakes with a lot more detail in them they’re going back to like from the beginning things have had to be perfect here fondant has had to be perfect and everything little detail now it’s doing a complete flip people are doing cakes with cracks in them and making them look old and aged and everything so I think it’s going yeah back that way a little bit more I like it in such a little like a close-knit community everyone’s really nice I know it’s a sort of a cliche thing to say but I’ll drop a cake off at a venue and I’ll know the chef there I’ll know the wedding planner I’ll know the florist you know you get welcomed with hugs and yeah I think that’s what I like about it’s really nice and small if someone was looking to get married in the tweed area I’d suggest to get on Tweed Coast Weddings website and have a look on there there’s a lot more even than two years ago there’s so many new venues that have opened up yeah it’s really growing really fast so I think it’s a perfect spot to married [Music]
