Hey guys, it’s Ro! Welcome to another Nerdy
Nummies! As many of you know, I am a huge Game of Thrones
fan! And, I often have viewing parties and I make themed treats from
the show. Today I wanted to do something very special,
I wanted to make something that’s from the stories, that often appears in the
TV show. And that is Sansa’s Lemon Cakes! In the story, Lemon Cakes are very rare, they’re
very fancy treats that the nobles eat. And they’re Sansa’s favorite,
Sansa Stark loves Lemon Cakes and they’re very rare for her, because she
lives up North, and up North it’s very cold, Lemon’s don’t grow there. So
these are her favorite! So today, we are gonna be making Sansa’s
Lemon Cakes! Let’s get started! Dun-dun, da-da-dun-dun, da-da-dun-dun, da-da, duuuunnnn-duuuuunnnnn, duuuunnnn-duuuuunnnnn, Da-na-newwwww! Doo-doo-doo-doo…. Oh I’m forgetting it… Oh
OK. The things you will need, will be: 1-1/4 cup
of all purpose flour, 1/2 a cup plus 2 tablespoons of granulated
sugar, 2 eggs, plus 1 egg yolk, 1/2 a cup of melted butter, 1/4 cup of sour cream, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, a pinch of salt, the juice and zest
of 1 lemon. 8 Ounces of water, 8 ounces of sugar and some
Meyer lemons. These lemons are a little bit smaller, and they’re a
hybrid between, like, a lemon and an orange, and they’re just a little bit sweeter. Now let’s put it all together! The first thing that you’re gonna want to
do is prepare your lemons, you want to do this the day before, so like 20 hours
before you actually bake. What you’re gonna do is you’re gonna take
your little Meyer lemons, I’m just placing it on top of a cutting board, and
I’ve got a sharp knife, and we’re just gonna cut 1/8 to a 1/4 of an inch slices. You’ll want 12 of them, but I’m gonna
cut a few extra, just in case I mess up. When life gives you lemons, make Sansa’s
Lemon Cake! We’ve got our lemons sliced, and now we’re
gonna take our lemon slices, our water and our sugar over to the stove! Add the sugar and water to a medium sauce
pot, turn the burner to high and allow the mixture to come to a boil. Then reduce
the falme to medium and add the lemon slices, and cook for 5 to 7 minutes. Then, remove the lemon slices with tongs and place
onto a parchment lined cookie sheet. Final step is to allow them to dry for 24
hours at room temperature. Now to make our lemon cake batter! We’ve got a big mixing bowl over here, and
the first thing that we’re gonna mix together is our sugar and our eggs. So I’m
gonna pour in the sugar, and remember we’re adding 2 full eggs and then, just
1 of the yolks from the third. Just work it together until it’s well combined. Now we’re gonna add our sour cream, and
whisk together again. Now I’m gonna be adding the zest and lemon
juice of that 1 lemon from the beginning. All I did was zest the outside, and squeeze
the juice. And we’re gonna add our vanilla. Cakes with fruit in them are just so good! Now we’re gonna add all of our dry ingredients. Our flour, baking powder, and salty-salty! Oh this smells so good! This smells like fresh
fruit! Mmmmm-mmmmm-mmmmmm! Fresh Lemon in my face! Lastly we’re gonna whisk in our butter,
this is melted butter, but you don’t want to pour it in while it’s still hot, so let
it cool for a little bit, then whisk it up! We’ve got our lemon cake batter ready, we’ve
got our lemon slices ready, and now it is time to assemble these delicious treats. We’re gonna be baking them in a little cupcake
tray over here, I’ve got a little cupcake tin, and the first thing that we’re
gonna need to do is lightly grease them. So you’re gonna take a little bit
of baking spray, and just spray inside each cup. Then you’re gonna take
a slice of dried lemon and place them at the bottom of each cup, like this. If you’re a baker, this outfit is not functional! Sansa was probably not a baker, let me tell
you! Because… How do you….. Right?!?!? Now we’re gonna take a heaping scoop of
our lemon cake batter and place it into each cup. The scoop I’m using is about an ounce and
a half of batter, if that’s helpful. Our cakes are ready to bake, now you’re
gonna heat your oven to 325 degrees and bake for 20 minutes. Om-yum-yum-yum-yum-yum-yum! I just took the lemon cakes out of the oven
and you want to immediately remove them from the pan. This has not been
true on anything else on Nerdy Nummies, but for this recipe, you want
to move fast! Otherwise, the lemon will stick to the bottom,
we don’t want that! Alright, so over here I have a cookie sheet,
and I’ve lined it with a piece of parchment paper, and we’re gonna do something
a little nifty! We’re gonna flip it over! Right on top, and I’m gonna flip it over. Here we go, and flip! Here we go! Now we gotta pick up this…. Come on Sansa! Pick it up…. Game of Thrones Lemon Cakes! Just gonna let these cool for a few minutes
and then they’re ready to serve! Ta-da! Here are Sansa’s Lemon Cakes that
we made today! I am so excited because I love Game of Thrones!
And this is the first time on Nerdy Nummies that we have ever made a recipe
from the story! They look just like the ones she eats! And, you guys, they smell so good! I can’t
wait to eat 1! Ob-ob-ob, yum-yum-yum-yum! I’ll be taking lots of pictures of these
treats and posting them on Facebook, Tumblr, Instagram and…. Twitter! And if you guys make these treats, please
take a picture and send it to me! I love seeing your baking creations, it just
makes my day! And if you guys have any other ideas for any
other Nerdy Nummies, please let me know, leave me a comment down below and
I will do my best to make it happen! Alright, thanks again you guys, bye-bye! And now, I’ve gotta have 1 of these. I gotta see what all the fuss is about! Mmmmmmmm! Oh yeah, that’s why they put that lemon
on the top, that’s good! Everyone in Westeros will want 1, but they
can’t have them because they’re apparently fancy or something!
