I’m Lorelie and welcome to wedding cakes
for you cake tutorials. In this video I’m going to show you how to make a very
simple yet effective fondant plaque. You’ll need fondant mixed with some
tylose powder, cornstarch for dusting, either straight from the bag or one of
these handy dusting pouches, and a small rolling pin. Kneed your fondant and roll
it out on the dusted surface until it is fairly thin, mine is about 1/8 of an inch.
Next take a pattern that you like, I made my own with paper, cut carefully around
the template with a sharp thin knife or other cutting tool. Let the plaque dry
overnight. I wanted mine to be flexible so I used
it before it hardened all the way. Now I’m using food writers because I wanted
the name to be very small and fit on one line. When using the food writers on
fondant don’t press too hard or it may leave an indentation. Next press the
plaque directly onto the cake. Now pipe a border around the plaque.
This is a star tip number 14 and you can create a very small delicate border with
this tip. Next add some finishing touches with tiny gum paste flowers pressed
directly into the buttercream. You can use a small dab of buttercream to attach
flowers to the plaque as well. I have a little book for you, it’s called my top 5
